About Geormel's Enterprises

GeorMel’s Enterprises is a non-profit 501(c)3 community-based organization co-founded by Georgia Modica and Remel Burns, native Orleanians who were displaced in August 2005 by hurricane to Houston, Texas and incorporated September 5, 2006 in Spring, Texas.  In 2007 Always Sisters Feed the Multitude was established in at a local church in Houston,Texas, where our health professional team was organized.  It consisted of nurses, pharmacists, medical assistant students, and volunteers.  We provided a week supply of non-perishable food, clothing, hot meals, personal hygiene items, baby items such as diapers, food, formula, and wiped, including spiritual counseling and prayer for the homeless and underserved people in impoverished communities.

We also provided medical health screening by checking individuals for high blood pressure, blood glucose testing, medication teaching and medical referrals. Collaborating with Houston, Texas Second Harvest Food Bank, Baylor School of Medicine, Texas Tech Vocational School, Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) hospital, volunteers, local retail, and hospital pharmacists. Our Annual Food and Health Fairs were held at various senior independent living facilities and churches throughout the Greater Houston areas.

After 8 years in Spring, Texas God lead us back home to a greater need in feeding the homeless and underserved.  Our organization is small with a heart to serve humanity helping those who have fallen on bad times unable to help themselves, individuals starving, eating out of trash cans just losing hope.

We are not here to judge but to serve one another. Acts 20:35 states “…labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.” As Rachel Naomi Remen puts it “When you help, you see life as week.  When you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you see life as whole.

Ramona Batiste

Director /Secretary
As a Community health care worker for nearly 20 years, I have a modest way of telling things about myself. You would hardly know that this single mother of two girls in college also dedicates her time to community projects at GeorMel's Enterprises where she has been the Director/Agent Officer with pals and owners Georgia and Remel for over 13 years. Ramona has a healthy list of projects that keeps her active and in touch with the people of New Orleans. Some of her favorites in working with GeorMel's Enterprises are feeding the hungry and school supplies giveaways for kids going back to school. She remembers how hard it is for parents to get their kids ready for the school year so this project holds a special place in her heart. When Ramona is not cheering for her beloved New Orleans Saints (2-1) She is singing her heart out in the VCC Victory Community Choir where she was the secretary and treasurer. Ramona's life may be busy but its full of love  of family, friends and community service.
